10 Ways to Get Self Care At Work – Mental Health

Self care has been a seriously hot topic recently. It seems that more and more people are starting to see how important it really is, but some people still might be misunderstanding self care. Or, some people might suggest there isn’t enough time in the day for self care. What a terrifying idea! Enter ways to get self care at work.

Most of us spend a ton of time at work, whether it be a desk job, or something similar. Work is also one of the most stressful parts of our day, and sometimes we carry that stress home with us as well. For me, I feel like most of my work stress stems from thinking of all the stuff I need to get done at home. Sometimes I really need to take better care of myself at work so I can be more productive.

Enter self care that you can practice while at work!

I am a big time believer in self care and how you can use it to transform your entire LIFE! Seriously, once you try it and see how effective it is, you’ll probably never want to go back. I know that I live for my nights in where I get to indulge a little in some self care, so bringing that comfort with me to work is important and seriously has helped me to up my game!

Self Care at Work Ideas

  1. Sip water all day long. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Make sure you are getting enough water, because when you’re dehydrated, you tend to feel like a garbage bin. Grab a cute reusable bottle, and fill it up often! I keep a reusable plastic tumbler on my desk, and always fill it up with fresh water first thing in the morning.
  2. Recognize when you need a break. Stressed? Take a minute, get some fresh air or excuse yourself for a moment. Clear your mind, get focused again, and get back to work. Getting centered again is everything!
  3. Don’t underestimate a to do list. I keep a todo list for myself in my planner to help me make sure that I tackle everything I need to in the day. Check off as you go, and feel accomplished every step of the way.
  4. Snack when you’re hungry. I know so many people who love to work straight through the lunch hour and tackle work, but seriously, take a break for a snack to keep your energy level up. You feel better when you aren’t starving!
  5. Pack healthy snacks. Refuel with granola, fruit, and veg for sustainable energy. Sugary processed foods crash your energy, making you feel worse later.
  6. Get enough sleep the night before. Need I say anything else?
  7. Have designated time to respond to emails, calls, etc. Instead of trying to keep up tirelessly with the never ending requests, designate a few times a day to touch base. You’ll feel way less buried and you’ll be more focused when you do respond.
  8. Take a breath. This might sound super silly, but taking a minute and focusing solely on your breathing for a minute can take your anxiety back to a 0.
  9. Leave your work at work. Don’t drag all the stress home. Make a policy with yourself that you will drop the work drama as soon as you leave that door.
  10. Remember to be positive. Try to find something good in everyone you meet. Forcing yourself to look for the good can seriously pick up your mood.

Kerastase is here! New Line at Sephora Unboxed

I always get excited when I see that I have a new VoxBox from Influenster on the way, and this one was certainly no exception. A few days before moving to school, a white box appeared on my doorstep, containing three full sized items from the Kerastase haircare line all for me! What a treat and a half!

If you aren’t familiar, Influenster is a website and app that matches up writers, bloggers, and other creatives with brands! They send out packages (they call them VoxBoxes!) and all you need to do is review the products inside, and see if they are good. Easy enough! That being said, Influenster and Kerastase generously provided me with these products for my review. That does NOT mean that I have to say a single nice thing about them, and my opinions are all my own. Why even review if you don’t tell the truth? Who knows.

I’m on the fiendish side when it comes to haircare and skincare. High quality products yield high quality results (usually!) so starting with products that are quality makes a serious difference. I received three separate products to try out, and I have formulated my own ideas on all three.

So, here we go! Allll my thoughts, complains, compliments & more.

Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil Serum

“A blend of four precious hair oils that will add shine, deeply nourish, and help to prevent breakage.” -Sephora.com

The concept of a hair oil is not really new to me whatsoever. As someone with curly, thick, crazy hair, I’ve tried more than my fair share. My hair is large, poofy, frizzy and unruly at best. It can take some strong products to keep everything in check for me.

This oil did not leave my hair feeling “oily” or wet, but did leave it feeling more soft and shiny. The scent isn’t my favorite, but, the scent does dissipate pretty quickly and didn’t linger too heavily. I’m totally strange when it comes to smells, so this was a serious plus for me. I don’t want to smell my products all day long, and I didn’t with this oil.

That being said, I think that for what the oil does, the price point is a tad on the high end. One bottle retails at $50. One bottle would last you for a long while, but I don’t think that personally I would want to shell out quite that much. I sometimes struggle with spending more than $10 on haircare, but I do really enjoy the feel, so it might be worth the splurge.

Kerastase spared no expense in making the bottle gorgeous, however. It feels heavy, luxe, and really is gorgeous sitting on your countertop or vanity. There is one problem I have though; the pump deposits the oil directly onto the bottle every single time. This leads to a mess, which I have to then clean up, which isn’t my favorite thing to do by a long shot. I would love to see this adjusted in the future, but other than that, the way the product is packaged really is beautiful and does feel very expensive.

Kerastase Initialiste Advanced Scalp & Hair Serum

“A specialized scalp and hair treatment that will leave your hair looking shinier and feeling thicker.” -Sephora.com

The second item that I received was a hair serum. To be totally honest, I didn’t really even know that hair serum was a thing! I know there are loads of serums for your skin, but I didn’t think that it applied to hair too. This had me feeling intrigued and curious as to how this would work out for myself and my finicky hair type.

I dispensed the product into my palms using the pipette and then massaged it into my roots and scalp. It honestly felt amazing. My hair did feel better after, and throughout the day, I didn’t feel as though it was heavy or uncomfortable. It absorbed quickly, and left my roots feeling soft and touchable. That is saying quite a bit about my unruly hair.

The bottle itself is so pretty I now keep it on my bathroom counter top, while most other products are tucked away. Again, the bottle felt heavy, is made of glass, and has this beautiful pearly coloring on the outside. The pipette made getting the product so easy, and helps you to not pour too much out. I need all the help with not wasting product!

This product retails at Sephora for $51. Again, the price point is on the high side, but it really is a luxe and beautiful product for your hair. I will make this last as long as I physically can, because I really am loving it.

Kerastase Discipline Anti Frizz Smoothing Spray

“An anti-frizz protection spray that offers frizz control up to 72 hours, heat protection up to 450°F, and adds shine.” -Sephora.com

The last item that I unpacked was this anti frizz spray! If you know me, you know that me and frizz are practically best friends (seriously) and anything to help cut down on the poof is welcomed with open arms. So, when I saw this in the package, I was so thrilled.

I applied this product by spraying liberally onto my hair, then scrunching to make sure that it was evenly distributed throughout my hair. After that, I styled my hair as usual and went about my day at work without giving it much of a second thought.

I don’t think that this product seriously made a massive difference, but it did help to keep my hair more tame throughout the day. The difference wasn’t huge, but I did see a small one. I had higher hopes for this product, but alas, it didnt *quite* live up to my standards. Oh well.

The packaging is, again, really beautiful. Another pearly toned bottle, but this one was the only plastic one in the bunch. That was expected, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen a glass spray bottle for hair products. One bottle retails for $37 through Sephora, which again, I think is on the pricey side.

Have you ever received a VoxBox? Would you like to in the future? Let me know in the comments!
